A Kenyan father has taken to social media to demand answers and accountability after his only daughter died at a Children’s Hospital on November 1, 2026, following what the family had understood to be a routine tonsillitis checkup.

John Wa Alfred Kaburu shared a heartfelt and deeply troubled account of the events on Facebook, saying his daughter walked into the theatre on her own two feet, smiling, and was gone within an hour.

According to Kaburu, the family had initially booked an appointment with a specific doctor to perform a procedure the following Wednesday.

The hospital, however, declared the case an emergency and moved the surgery to Saturday.

Kaburu says doctors declined to share timely information

The operation, expected to last roughly 30 minutes, reportedly stretched beyond two hours, with the family receiving little explanation during that time.

“At around 1:40pm my child was active, smiling and playing with balloons. By around 2:30pm my child was no more,” he wrote, questioning how a child could die within an hour in a medical facility.

Kaburu says the doctors declined to share timely information during the procedure and have since refused to provide a medical report.

Kaburu allegedly roughened up by security guards

He also alleges that a liver function test appeared on the official bill despite his belief that it was never carried out, raising concerns about fraudulent billing.

The father’s account does not end at the theatre. He alleges that when he tried to seek answers after his daughter’s death, security guards were brought in, he was reportedly locked in, physically assaulted and threatened.

He further alleges that his phone was confiscated for approximately three hours, cutting him off from family members at a moment when he needed support most.

Kaburu’s daughter’ body transferred without family’s consent Kaburu also claims his daughter’s body was transported to another morgue without the family’s consent, and that it was moved in a security guard’s vehicle rather than a proper hearse or mortuary vehicle.

He says no professional counsellor or grief support was made available to the family in the immediate aftermath.

“I am demanding answers, transparency and an independent investigation,” Kaburu told TUKO, adding that he fears the actions taken against him were intended to prevent him from speaking out.

The father confirmed that the matter has been referred to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and that his family intends to pursue the truth through lawful channels.

He has called on the hospital to release a full medical report and submit to an independent review of the circumstances surrounding his daughter’s death.

“Your life mattered. Your death must not be in vain,” he wrote in a message addressed directly to his daughter.
