DJ Mo, found himself in the dock at Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, November 4, after being arrested along Thika Road in Nairobi earlier that morning.
Before facing the magistrate, DJ Mo shared a video from inside the court building, writing:
“Forgetting to renew insurance just for a day has landed me in court. Anyway, are these courts for men or not? 😂 Remember to check yours.”
Did DJ Mo disobey traffic cop?
The gospel entertainer pleaded guilty to two separate traffic charges before Senior Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo.
He explained to the court that his insurance cover had expired the day before his arrest and that he simply forgot to renew it.
He also told the magistrate that he was in a rush to collect his sick child from school at the time, adding that the incident caused him to miss a scheduled flight.
According to the charge sheet, police arrested Muraya at approximately 8:55 am near Roasters along Thika Road, while he was behind the wheel of a Jaguar.
The first charge accused him of driving the vehicle without a valid third-party motor vehicle insurance certificate, in contravention of the law.
An alternative count accused him of failing to display a valid insurance certificate. The second charge related to DJ Mo allegedly ignoring verbal instructions from a uniformed police officer.
The court heard that after being stopped, Muraya refused to drive his vehicle to the police station as directed by Corporal Chelimo, and instead continued towards Thika.
Magistrate Onsarigo fined him KSh 3,000 on the insurance-related count and KSh 2,000 on the second count, bringing his total fine to KSh 5,000.
The incident serves as a timely reminder for Kenyan motorists to stay on top of their insurance renewals, particularly as driving without valid third-party cover carries both legal and financial consequences.
