The suspects were caught on surveillance cameras taking the items.

Police officers in Kitengela are investigating the theft of phones and accessories worth 700,000 shillings from the store of a local businessman.

Surveillance footage from the store shows two suspects entering the store through a hole dug in the wall and stealing the goods.

The two suspects allegedly booked two rooms in a lodging facility adjacent to the store and drilled a hole through which they entered the premises.

Footage shows the men entered the store at about 5:08 a.m. and completed their plan at 6:20 a.m.

The January 12 incident has left the owner baffled: How could the two suspects have drilled the hole for eight hours without being noticed?

“It was a premeditated crime. I lost new cell phones, credit cards, headphones and cash,” the owner told the press.

The first person to open the store that morning was Risper Kawira, who said she was surprised to find a messy store.

According to the shelter’s janitor, Cornelius Nzioka, one of the suspects was a regular customer who often booked the room next to the store.

“One of the suspects was a regular customer and always preferred room 106, which is adjacent to the phone store,” he recalled.

Nzioka also said that the customers had given false information and could not be located through the phone numbers they had provided at the front desk.

Police officers recorded the incident under OB number 22/13/01/2023, but no suspect has been arrested yet.
