A young woman from Kahuho Village in Karuthi, Nyeri County, has gone from selling mandazi at a roadside tea centre to earning a formal qualification as a plumber, closing a chapter that many in her community say reflects what determination can achieve.
Loise Wangechi Gitang’a, also known as Abdalla, graduated on Friday, November 6, 2026, with a Diploma in Water Technology from Mukurwe-ini Technical Training Institute, capping a journey that began at the Karuthi Tea Buying Centre in Kibadaski, where she once sold fried dough to make ends meet.
Loise met by Chinga Ward MCA
In 2019, at that very spot, Waithaka Kinyua, the incoming Member of County Assembly for Chinga Ward, first encountered Loise.
Struck by her circumstances, he arranged for her enrolment at Mukurwe-ini Technical Training Institute to pursue technical skills training.
What followed were years of hard work, navigating both financial pressure and the demands of a course that remains male-dominated in many parts of Kenya.
Loise’s humble background
Loise comes from a humble background in Karuthi Sub-location, Chinga Ward.
The road through training was not straightforward, but she persevered and completed her studies, earning a qualification that now makes her a certified plumber.
Loise’s achievement carries added weight given what awaits her beyond the graduation ceremony.
Loise’s father is unwell
Her father is unwell, and she is actively seeking employment so she can contribute to his care and to the family’s upkeep at home in Kahuho Village.
The story was shared on November 6, 2026, on Facebook, where it drew attention as an example of how timely intervention and personal resolve can reshape a young person’s future.
Loise’s story has resonated across Nyeri County as a reminder that background does not determine destination, and that a single opportunity, taken seriously, can alter the course of a life.
