A Nairobi court has freed Korogocho Member of County Assembly (MCA) Absalom Odhiambo on a cash bail of Ksh100,000 pending a hearing of his incitement to violence case.
Odhiambo was granted bail by Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina after denying two charges of subversive activities and offensive conduct.
The hearing of the case on Monday, February 6, 2023, came days after another court on Thursday last week declined an application by the state to detain him to complete investigations.
MCA’s offence
According to a charge filed in court by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the MCA is alleged to have committed the offence on January 25 at Jalamongi Oginga Odinga Foundation House Capitol Hill in Kilimani, Nairobi.
He is alleged to have uttered words whose intention was to incite violence among Kenyans and cause anarchy in the country.
In his second charge, the MCA is alleged to have used threatening, abusive, and insulting behaviour with the intent to provoke a breach of peace.
