Azimio leader Raila Odinga postponed the opposition’s rally in Mombasa that had been scheduled for Saturday, February 25, 2023.

In a statement on Sunday, Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango said the coalition will instead hold the engagement with the public dubbed ‘people’s baraza’ in Kakamega next Saturday.

According to the opposition chief, Azimio made the changes to ensure better coordination of the coalition’s activities.

“To better coordinate its activities, the party made a decision to clear with western Kenya, before proceeding to other parts of the country,” the statement read in part.

Onyango said Azimio’s prayer rally at Jevanjee Gardens in Nairobi slated for Wednesday, February 22, 2023, has not been affected.

“The prayer rally earlier scheduled for Jevanjee Gardens in Nairobi on Wednesday, 22nd February 2023, remains,” he said.

Raila had earlier indicated that Azimio will dedicate the prayers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), which he claims was used to rig him out in the last presidential election.

After a luncheon with Azimio Senators, Raila maintained that the August 2022 polls were affected by massive irregularities, adding that his coalition will not allow an act of electoral fraud to be swept under the carpet.

The former Prime Minister said Kenyans fought for a long time to restore multipartism and they will not allow the gains to be rolled back.

The opposition has in recent weeks intensified engagements with the public in various parts of the country as part of efforts Raila says are aimed at pushing out President William Ruto’s “illegitimate” administration.
