Police have launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly stabbed a Nairobi woman he met on Facebook after luring her to visit him in Maua, Meru County.
The suspect only identified as Patoo is said to have invited the victim, Sylvia, to a party in Meru County where he requested her to tag along with her female friend, only for the two ladies to end up traumatized and Sylvia nursing knife injuries.
According to the Directorate Criminal Investigation (DCI), the Tuesday evening incident saw Sylvia and Jackie board a matatu to Meru County with dashing outfits in preparation for a night of merry-making.
“At 6 pm Tuesday, Sylvia and her bestie Jackie boarded a Meru-bound shuttle along Accra road and set off for the 4-hour journey giggling and teeming with excitement,” stated the DCI.
On the journey, Patoo called the unsuspecting Sylvia and explained to her that the venue of the party had changed and that they were expected to board another matatu to Maua after alighting at the bus terminus.
The DCI explained that the pair remained optimistic and heeded Patoo’s directions.
At the destination, the duo found Patoo eagerly waiting for them and did not hesitate to apologise for the sudden change of venue and inconvenience, before leading them to a dark street which he said would lead to the event.
“After vehemently apologising for the sudden change of the party venue, Patoo led them to a dark path which he said would lead to their final rendezvous,” read the statement.
The women, who according to the DCI, were now becoming sceptical of the man objected to his call, leading to a scuffle as the two began to flee for their lives.
Unbeknownst to them, Patoo then removed a knife and stabbed Sylvia in her shoulder and then took off.
“But the city babes who had never experienced such darkness in their lives started screaming as they took flight towards the main road. Patoo immediately reached for a knife and stabbed Sylvia on her shoulder before fleeing into the darkness.,” DCI stated.
She was taken to Muthara hospital and later transferred to Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital by a passerby where she is currently recuperating.
“A Good Samaritan who was walking home came to their rescue and took Sylvia to Muthara hospital for treatment. She was later transferred to Meru Teaching and Referral hospital for specialised treatment,” noted the DCI.
The police say a pursuit for Patoo is currently underway.
