Nandi senator Samson Cherargei is calling for the repatriation of former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i who travelled out of the country even as his pursuit by State agencies continues.

Through his Twitter of Tuesday night, Cherargei questioned the migration department for allowing him to jet out of the country saying he should be deported back to face the law.

Further, he called for an investigation into the officers who cleared Mating’i travel documents with immediate effect.

“There is should be immediate investigations into any officers who cleared CS Matiang’i to travel yet he is under investigation by various agencies. Reshuffling/administrative action should be taken & immediate REPATRIATION of CS Matiangi back to Kenya to face the law/music!” he wrote.

Reports indicate that Fred Matiang’i is currently in South Africa and has directed his lawyers to handle his matters.

On Monday, the Investigations Bureau (IB) of the DCI wrote to the State Department for Citizen Services seeking the latest travel history of Dr Matiangi.

The document seen by K24 Digital indicates that the former CS travelled out of the country on February 19 through the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

“Passport number BK276318 was issued to Dr Okengo Matiangi on January 12, 2022. He is also a holder of Diplomatic passport number DK0067. The subject departed on 19 February through JKIA on KLM flight number 566,” a letter signed by Emmanuel Simiyu indicates.

In 2013, Matiang’i was sworn in as Information and Communications 2013 where he served until 2017 when he was moved to the Education docket and later took over as the Interior CS a position he retained when President Uhuru was reelected.

Sources said Matiangi was tipped that detectives would raid his home and he left. He has never publicly spoken about the alleged raid but the DCI has maintained that they will investigate to establish what actually transpired.

The DCI had also asked the Magistrate Court in Nairobi, in an application dated February 10, to order the manager of Amsec Security Services, which means Dr. Matiangi’s home, to hand over security footage from 6 am on February 8 to 11 pm on February 9.

Meanwhile the court on Thursday last week extended an order barring the detectives from arresting the former CS. The conservatory order which was to end on Thursday will now run until April 19 when the matter will come up for mention.
