Police in Mwea East, Kirinyaga county have launched a manhunt for a man who allegedly killed his lover before burying her in a shallow grave.

The officers who found the body of the 44-year-old woman noted that the suspect on the run may have killed her inside their room.

Mwea West Sub-County deputy police commander Sammy Beauttah noted that the body was discovered days after the Sunday incident.

“The matter was reported by the family members at Kiamaciri police station and after visiting the house we found the victim’s body… Joyce Nginya was buried in a shallow grave and that was when we started the process of exhuming the body after a court order from Baricho law court,” he stated.

Family members of the deceased noted that they were forced to involve the police after their kin went missing for three days.

Jane Njeru, the deceased’s sister, told the police that the family did not know the man currently on the run as their kin had separated from her husband in 2011.

“Tumekuja hapa juu my sister alipotea siku tatu hakuwa anapatikana ndo niliamua tukuje tumtafute, (We are here because our kin went missing for the last three days and she was nowhere to be found)” she stated.
