Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino has criticised the government over the state of education in the country accusing the current ministry of being clueless, especially on the Competency-Based Curriculum(CBC).
Addressing the press on Wednesday, Babu Owino said an audit of the Competency-Based Curriculum(CBC) was necessary, specifically Junior Secondary School (JSS), to ascertain the number of students who have enrolled, the number of those who did not and what the government will do to ensure 100 per cent transition.
He now wants President William Ruto to come out clear on the state of the education sector.
“What is the situation in our junior secondary school? How many learners have reported? Where have the learners who have not reported gone to?” He posed.
The MP also sought to know the number of teachers deployed to manage the transition since many schools were grappling with a shortage.
“The reports that many learners who reported to junior high school are not learning because there no teachers, can the government update the country on the number of teachers deployed for junior high school and how they have distributed,” said Owino.
Last week Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu put on a brave face affirming that all is well in the transition of learners to Junior Secondary School.
Machogu, who toured Kisii County on Thursday announced that 96% of learners have reported to school despite the fact that learning is yet to fully take off in a number of public Junior Secondary Schools across the country due to several challenges such as lack of capitation, adequate textbooks and a poor pupil to teacher ratio.
