The Chief Scout of the Kenya Scouts Association, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, has termed the decision by the Supreme Court to allow registration of LGBTQ+ groups as unreligious and against African culture.

Speaking during the Annual Africa scouts day in Nairobi on Saturday, Prof. Kaimenyi noted that the local Scouts Association was against the LGBTQ+ movement.

“Although the Scouts movement is international, we in Kenya will follow our cultural practices and beliefs. We have a mandate to instill discipline and behavioral orderings among the youth,” he said.

“We don’t want to be accused to be in contradiction with our own constitution which we should live by and which we must respect; especially our leaders who have sworn to respect the constitution.”

He added that the decision by the apex court will affect youth the most, opining that youth are likely to fall prey to pro-LGBTQ+ campaigns.

Scouts from all over Africa have gathered in Nairobi to commemorate the annual Africa Scout Day.

This year’s commemoration involves a three-day camp at the Rowallan national scout camp and a regional scout go-solar training at the Savelberg retreat centre.
