The 2008 Kenya Premier League champions Mathare United have bounced back from the sloppy start during the first leg campaign of the season following recent positive results including Sunday win  against AFC Leopards at Moi International Sports centre, Kasarani.

The solitary goal by Chrispine Owino in the 71st minute was enough to earn Mathare sweet revenge against Ingwe whom they had lost against in the first leg of this season’s top tier.

The win cemented the ambition by  Mathare United to avoid relegation as Ingwe dropped to sixth in the league standings with 32 points whilst Samuel Koko’s charges slowly but steadily played themselves towards safety.

On March 1,they pulled a surprise after upsetting record local champions and current league leaders Gor Mahia courtesy of a  2-1 scoreline in their FKF Premier League tie staged at the same venue.

Douglas Kibet had fired Mathare ahead in the eighth minute, before Gor levelled through red-hot striker Benson Omala’s header in the 64th minute while Daniel Otieno scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute.

Other Sunday results saw Gor Mahia extend their lead at the top after beating Bidco United 1-0 via a Benson Omalla goal.

Kogalo are now on 41 points with a 5 point gap between them and KCB who lost 2-1 to Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Annex.

Prior this clash, they had defeated  struggling Wazito 1-0 in a FKF Premier League match played at Ruaraka Grounds in Nairobi.

Despite starting poorly in the season, they have proved that they are not weaklings in the top-tier league for a good measure after earning re-admission into the league where they had been relegated last season under FKF Transition Committee.
