A two-year-old child who was reported missing from their home in Mlolongo, Machakos County, on Friday has been found and reunited with his family.

Baby Andrew Kinywa was found at Ogalo area in Matungu, Kakamega County, where he was reportedly abandoned at a home by an unknown person on Saturday evening.

The 12-hour journey from Mlolongo phase 3 took Kinywa, the father to Baby Andrew, to Koyonzo police station in Mumias, Kakamega County where he was reunited with his son.

Jerine Okello, a businesswoman from the area, narrated how an unknown woman brought in the two-year-old at a residential plot in Ogalo area at 6pm on Saturday before leaving unannounced.

“After I finished my work, I saw a child waving and went to confront my husband whether he had an extra-marital affair with someone who then came to leave the child near him,” Okello said.

But her husband denied having any such child.

The couple then made an official report at the Koyonzo police station, where they were granted temporary custody of the two-year-old boy until Monday, where further action would have been taken.

However, a report filed by Citizen TV on Saturday alerted Boniface to the whereabouts of his son, and he made the journey to Koyonzo in Mumias, where after a three-hour interrogation, Kinyua was reunited with his son.

Kinywa thanked Citizen TV for highlighting the story, adding “I also urge the government to tighten security because similar cases have been reported in recent days.”

“All I was thinking about during the time I was taking care of the baby is how his mother might be feeling,” Okello said.

Despite the happy reunion, a lot more families in the country continue with the search of their children.

According to the Directorate of Children’s Services, 6,374 cases of missing children were reported between January and May in 2022, pointing to a call for increased vigilance to ensure safety of the minors.
