A section of Kisumu residents on Sunday took to the streets to advocate for peace ahead of the planned Monday protests by Azimio la Umoja coalition.
The pro-peace protesters, led by Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda took to the streets condemning the anti-government demos.
Just before the pro-peace protest gathered momentum, the demonstrators were met with an attack from pro-Azimio faction.
Dozens of youths emerged from the Kisumu bus park, armed with weapons and repulsed the group which was heading towards the CBD.
Anti-riot police officers have now been deployed at the Kisumu bus park, as business establishments rush to close following the rising tension.
Police currently patrolling Kisumu CBD.
