The high court has extended bond terms granted to police officer Ahmed Rashid.

Justice Diana Mochache, who was promoted to high court judge last year, extended the bond terms to enable her to peruse and familiarise herself with the case.

The judge said she has not heard the matter before and needed time to understand the background.

Lawyers representing the victims had raised to the court that the victims will be denied justice if plea taking keeps on deferred to other dates.

“I have sought to understand the issues before me, calm down, I’m a worker, a super worker, a workaholic at that justice may go slowly but you will get justice, justice is not an electric train, it’s slow but it doesn’t cause an accident on the way.”

“I will definitely move slowly but justice keeps moving, go and look at the history of my performance and relax, I will not take off a matter and then start to ask questions,” she assured parties.

In the matter, Ahmed has also raised issues challenging the plea-taking and another application saying that the high court has no jurisdiction to preside over murder cases.

Judge Mochache directed that the matter be mentioned next Wednesday for further directions.

Sergeant Rashid is facing murder charges over the March 31, 2017 killings of two suspected thugs in Eastleigh; an incident that was captured on camera.
