A Malindi-based preacher accused of forcing children to fast until their death was arraigned in court on Thursday.

Paul Mackenzie of the Good News International Church, Malindi, was presented before Judge Olga Onalo.

The court was informed that the suspect is alleged to have caused the deaths of two children after they starved.

It is also alleged that the two were then buried in a shallow grave in the Chakama area.

Criminal investigation officer Joseph Yator requested for the cleric to be detained for a period of 15 days pending further objections; however, his request was rejected.

The preacher’s lawyer, Elisha Komora, said that the report from the investigating officer did not explain how the preacher was involved in the killing of the children.

The judge ordered that the suspect be released on a cash bail of Ksh.10,000.

Mackenzie was ordered to present himself at Malindi Police Station to help with investigations when called upon.
