Farmers in Mwea, Kirinyaga County are counting losses following the invasion of their farms by monkeys.
The monkeys have wreaked havoc at Karuangi village in Murinduko, destroying crops in their farms.
“We fear that the destruction of our crops will subject us to hunger,” a resident told Citizen Digital.
Farmers in the area have called on the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) to intervene.
“The mischievous monkeys go as far as stealing food from our homes. Their population keeps rising,” Susan Wanjiru, a resident, said.
According to Njuki Nyaga, a farmer in the area, they risk facing starvation should the animals continue to feed on their crops.
Residents called on the government to find a lasting solution to the issue.
