Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome on Thursday met the China Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) Vice Chairman You Xuhua and Luo Daxin, the General manager assistant at Maji House, Nairobi, over the Thwake multipurpose dam project.
According to CS Wahome, the construction of the dam will be completed in February 2024, with the dam expected to serve at least 1.3 million people.
The CS promised that the government would support the CGGC group and create a conducive environment under which the project will be completed.
During her visit to the site, CS Wahome insisted on quality work and proper treatment of the 2,000 workers currently working at the site.
She also asked for a detailed report so that the few underlying challenges facing the project can be addressed to ensure a proper working environment for all.
The dam project at the confluence of the Thwake and Athi rivers in Eastern Kenya is touted to be a lifeline for rural residents living in at least three counties.
