A 45-year-old man was charged with attempting suicide after the court found that he had tried to take away his life.

While appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego, he court heard that Evans Khamas attempted to take away his life by consuming poison on Tuesday, March 27, 2023.

The magistrate suggested that the accused should be taken for a medical examination so that the court is able to determine whether he is guilty or not.

“We ought to be sure if he is mentally upright before he can testify before this honourable court the reasons as to why he attempted to kill himself,” Justice Anyango ruled.

Elsewhere in Kakamega county, a man was sentenced to serve six months in jail after he insulted his sister-in-law.

The court heard that Zakaria Ingutia verbally abused his in-law during an encounter at the market.

Ingutia is said to have called his in-law a dog, a corrupt individual, and a home breaker.

While appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego, the accused pleaded with his sister-in-law to solve the case outside the court and withdraw the case against him.

“No one is perfect and misunderstanding in a family is something that cannot be avoided. I did wrong to my sister-in-law and feel that before I plead to the charge you give us time to settle it at the family level,” he stated.

He added: “My dear sweet in-law, nobody is perfect and I still love you despite you bringing me to court but it’s better if we could do away with the court and solve the matter from home,”

However, the court declined his plea noting that his actions were causing a disturbance and therefore considered an offence.
