Kenyan woman arrested at Hong Kong airport smuggling Ksh15.4M worth of c0c@in3 inside her body

A 35-year old Kenyan woman was arrested at Hong Kong International Airport in China for attempting to smuggle 1 kilogram of a narcotic substance believed to be c0c@in3 concealed inside her body.

Authorities say the woman had a total of 67 pellets with an estimated street value of HK$900,000 (Ksh.15.4 million).

According to Hong Kong police, the woman who had just arrived in the city from Nairobi via Addis Ababa is said to have been acting suspicious when agents pulled her aside for further inspection.

She was later escorted to a local hospital for examination.

The substance tested positive for the suspected drugs and was arrested immediately after.

“As at April 10, the arrested woman had excreted 67 pellets of suspected cocaine weighing about 1 kg in total,” a statement by Hong Kong’s Customs Excise Department stated.

On April 11, she was charged at the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Courts with one count of trafficking a dangerous drug into Hong Kong and now risks a life imprisonment or a fine of approvimately Ksh85 million.

“The maximum penalty upon conviction is a fine of HK$5 million (around Ksh85 million) and life imprisonment,” Hong Kong Customs department noted.
