Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has called on the government to hand down harsh penalties to individuals who leak private photos.

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, Millie said female leaders are the ones being targeted with the intention of destroying them.

She said all women have a right to take private pictures but individuals who leak such photos to the public for whatever reason should not be lightly let off.

“We are going to amend our laws and make strict penalties, I don’t support the death penalty, I wish I was and because I don’t support the death penalty I think we need to enhance the sentences for life for people like that,” she said.

The MP added that the behaviour of leaking photos must stop in the country.

She called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to probe such cases promptly.

“We can’t be treating women like trash. I want to tell women victimising fellow women. The woman is already a victim and you are taking a moral high ground, shame on you!”

Millie said that women should not be judged based on their private life.

She said many families have been destroyed because their partners leaked their private photos.

The MP, however, advised women to be mindful of the people they interact with because they might pretend to be friends and end up hurting them.
