Kimilili Member of Parliament (MP) has weighed in on the arrest of pastor Ezekiel Odero, who was arrested on Thursday over reported deaths at his church situated in Kilifi.

In a statement, Barasa strongly condemned the arrest of Ezekiel noting that it was wrong for police to arrest the man of cloth based on the mistakes of someone else.

He also castigated the ‘blanket’ condemnation of the church and claimed that the move was attracting punishment from God himself.

“I don’t think it was warranted for police to arrest Pastor Ezekiel Odero. One criminal who was running a cult and another one referring to himself as Yesu wa Tongaren cannot be the cause and or result to blanket condemnation of the church. God will punish us heavily for this……I strongly oppose this act….” he wrote.

His sentiments were echoed by Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya who argued that the arrest of Ezekiel was unwarranted.

Salasya while defending Ezekiel blamed the government for not doing its job leading to the mass deaths witnessed in Shakahola in Kilifi, Malindi county.

“Pastor Ezekiel should be left out of the problems created by Mackenzie. The police, DCI, prosecutor, EACC, court etc had an opportunity to protect the brainwashed citizens but instead kept silence. No one should attack pastor Ezekiel, if he acquired the station what’s the problem,” Salasya wrote.
