The Council of Governors (CoG) has selected a 10-member executive committee to intervene in the stalled Kenya Kwanza, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya bipartisan talks in a bid to end the ongoing stalemate that has led to anti-government protests.

Addressing press in Westlands on Tuesday, CoG Chairperson and Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru said the committee will try to bring the two warring political factions together with a view to ending the demonstrations which she said continue to have a negative impact on the counties.

The committee’s executive council will be led by the CoG leadership of Chairperson Anne Waiguru, her Vice Chairperson Ahmed Abdullahi (Wajir) and Whip Stephen Sang (Nandi).

The other seven Governors that will make up the rest of the committee include; Ken Lusaka (Bungoma), Fatuma Achani (Kwale), Mutahi Kahiga (Nyeri), Simba Arati (Kisii), Joseph Ole Lenku (Kajiado), Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos) and Dr. Ochilo Ayacko (Migori).

“The purpose of the committee is to engage the leaders from the two political divides to address the ongoing demonstrations and amicable solutions to ensure there is stability in the country,” said Governor Waiguru.

This now leaves the amount owed by the national government to counties at Ksh.29.6 billion for the March 2023 allocation.
