Police officers in Mumias Constituency, Kakamega County are searching for a 45-year-old man named Simon Mila Alichi who locked his two children in a room and tied them with chains.

The children were confined in the room day and night, with no food to eat.

According to the suspect’s parents John Mila and Ruth Andayi, their grandchildren had been dismissed from school and were quietly locked in the room by their father, who divorced his wife about two years ago.

His neighbours, led by Nicholas Nandwa, say the suspect has since been marrying other women and divorcing them within a short time. They describe him as a person who lives a secretive life.

Confirming the incident, Maraba Sub-location’s assistant chief Benson Ochango pointed fingers at neighbours for failing to report the incident on time.

Mila fled the scene after an ambush by security officers.

The minors have been taken to a children’s home in Mumias, awaiting a court decision on whoever will be granted custody.
