About thirteen members of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) are set to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee for defying the party’s position on the Finance Bill 2023.

According to the party’s Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the members failed to respond to show-cause letters written to 28 party members on June 15, who either voted for the bill or were absent during the voting exercise and were expected to respond within 48 hours.

Sifuna stated that only 15 members responded to the inquiry and the remaining members will now have to face the disciplinary committee for further interrogation.

“As we speak now among the 28 who were given the letters I received responses from about 15 people, 14 [13] others didn’t respond and if you didn’t respond the law says that you need to appear before the disciplinary committee. Let them come and explain themselves,” he said speaking on Radio Citizen Wednesday morning.

The controversial Bill, which has been strongly opposed by the opposition, sailed through the second reading on June 13 evening with 176 MPs supporting it against 81 who opposed it.
