Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested five gang members suspected of killing a 37-year-old M-Pesa shop attendant on June 26, 2023.

In a statement, DCI said the suspects were arrested in Starehe after a tip-off from members of the public, consequently recovering a gun.

“The five who are responsible for the cold-blooded murder of a 37-year-old woman on June 26, were rounded up yesterday, following an intelligence-led operation that also included a specialized team of detectives from the DCI Nairobi regional command,” the statement read in part.

The victim, Beatrice Okumu, was accosted by three robbers at around 10 pm after closing her shop. The three, who were on a motorbike, robbed her undisclosed amount of money before shooting her dead.

Names of the gang members

The suspects arrested on Thursday night include Kevin Oduor alias Mande, John Chege alias Samir alias Chei, Leroy Omondi alias Leon Mutahi alias Issa and Clifford Bogonko.

The gang members, who were arrested in Kayole Area 3, are said to be connected to a series of robberies reported in various parts of the city for the past two months.
