Simon ‘Kosirai’ Kipkorir, Africa’s outstanding middle blocker and the proud recipient of the prestigious Sports Journalist Association of Kenya (SJAK) Player of the Month award for May 2023, is on the brink of an exciting career development afterMouloudia Sportive de Bou Salem, the reigning men’s Africa volleyball club champions in Tunisia, has extended a tempting contract offer to him.

With his exceptional talent and unwavering dedication, Kipkorir vows to elevate Kenya’s volleyball legacy to new heights during the upcoming Africa Nations Volleyball Championships in Egypt.

Speaking exclusively to People Sport on Saturday from his home in Nandi County, Mosop Constituency, Kosirai revealed that his agent called him last week and broke the news to him that Tunisia wants to extend his contract as he prepares to start camp with Kenya’s national volleyball team ‘Wafalme’.

“My agent called me on Friday to break the news. I am happy that the club has recognised my efforts and wants to have me again for another season,” Kosirai said and added that his agent also has two other offers from the middle east that he would not like to reveal at the moment, although his concentration now is for the national team training camp that will start any time this week in Nairobi.

The 25-year-old became the first Kenyan to ever win the Confederation of Africa Volleyball Men’s Club Championships title when his club beat Zamalek from Egypt back in May to win the African club title going ahead to be named the best middle blocker of the championships, a motivation he says will push him in his quest to translate the same glory from club to country.

“Last time out in Kigali we gave our best, but I felt it was not enough as we did not go through, although we beat Egypt and lost to Morocco. It was heartbreaking, but I think this time round in Cairo we are in for it and will fight to the bitter end,” said Kosirai.

Kenya’s men’s national volleyball team was named last week on Thursday and acting federation chairperson Charles Nyaberi revealed that Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) is in the process of acquiring funds ready to hit camp this week in Nairobi as the team dubbed ‘ Wafalme’ starts preparing for the Africa Nations Volleyball Championships slated for Cairo in Egypt from September 1 to 14.

According to Kosirai, the 21-man provisional squad named by KFV that has six rookies is a much-improved side that he hopes will get a podium finish in Cairo seeking to dethrone defending champions Tunisia who won their 11th continental title at the now infamous BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda back in 2021.
