Singer Ringtone, 5 others charged with assaulting foreigners

Singer Alex Apoko, alias Ringtone and five others were on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, charged before Kibera law courts with assaulting five foreigners and damaging property worth Ksh5,000.

Appearing before Kibera Chief Magistrate, the musician together with Samson Onunga alias Kazola, Victor B Maringa, Kevin Nyaoke, Brian Jumba Luseno and Geoffrey Mose denied several charges of assault and malicious damage to property levelled against them by the Office of the DPP.

The six suspects were charged that on July 21, 2023, at Bomas of Kenya Muiru Gardens with Langata Sub-county, they assaulted the five Sudanese foreigners namely Kongkong Paulino, Gabriel Paulino, Stephen Gatwech, John Paulino and Chuang Emmanuel occasioning them bodily harm.

In count two the six accused persons were charged that on the same place and date they jointly and unlawfully damaged the chairs valued at Ksh 5000 belonging to the family of Kongkong

The prosecution of the musician and his accused persons comes days after they were presented themselves to court following the unfortunate incident that happened at the foreigners apartment near Bomas of Kenya on Friday July 21, 2023.

It is not yet clear why the Ringtone and his co-accused persons assaulted the foreigner at their resident.

After denying the charges, the six suspects sought to be released on bail saying they will abide by all conditions set by the court.

They were released on Ksh50,000 cash bail and a surety of the same amount each.
