It is a reprieve for Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja after the High Court declined to issue orders stopping the county’s school feeding program.

In a ruling on Thursday, Judge Mugure Thande said stopping the program will prejudice the children who are benefiting from the feeding program.

In their submission, defence lawyers Duncan Okatch and Elius Mutuma told the court that the project is beneficial for the students who are charged five shillings every day and the relief for parents.

Tunza Mtoto coalition had moved to court arguing that the feeding programme is not the mandate of a devolved unit.

The petitioner asked the court to bar Sakaja from utilising any of the funds allocated Dishi na County programme.

Speaking after the ruling, Sakaja assured Nairobi parents that he will fight for the project to be a success.

“The children of Nairobi deserve the best care. They have a right to food and nutrition,” he said.
