List of neighborhoods that will be affected by blackouts today

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has released a statement listing neighborhoods that will experience a planned blackout on Wednesday, August 2, 2023. The power interruption, according to KPLC, results from routine maintenance work.

In a tweet on KPLC’s official Twitter handle, the utility company informed its customers of the scheduled power interruptions. The areas affected include various neighborhoods in Kiambu, Uasin Gishu, Nyeri, Meru, and Kilifi counties, alongside adjacent customers.

Specifically, the affected areas in Kiambu County include parts of Ondiri, Karai, Rurii, Jambu TV, Nairobi Ndogo, Lusigili, Nachu, and adjacent customers. Meanwhile, in Uasin Gishu County, the power outage will impact Naiberi Center, Duka Moja, Lotonyok, Losirwo, and adjacent customers.

In Nyeri County, the blackout will affect Mathaithi, Tegu Center and Factory, Maritime, Rugoka, Giagatika, Kaiyaba, Ngandu Girls’, Kanyama, Rititi, Tumutumu Hospital, Kiamubiria Primary, Kiangoma Village, Karie Factory, Wakamata Polytechnic, and adjacent customers.

Parts of Meru County will also be impacted, including Mutewa Secondary School, Akaiga, Kooju Market, Kaathi Primary, Kamujine Dispensary, Kunati Market, Ngongoaka Primary, Mulango, Ametho, Athwana Mikinduri, Amatu, and adjacent customers.

Kilifi County will experience power interruptions affecting Kanamai, North Coast Beach Hotel, Gurdum Villa, Xanadu Villas, Royal Reserve, Kanamai Conference, Salama Beach Hotel, St. Mathew’s School, Barani Timboni, and Barani School.

Other affected areas in Kilifi County are Kanamai Four Farm, Mtwapa Gardens, Coca-Cola Bottlers, Bayusuf Farm, Ashut Plastics, Brilliant EPZ, Mombasa Apparel, Rembo Apartments, Kariuki Farm, Kwa Mwavitswa, Toto Dogo, Biladi Mtwapa primary School, Pwani Fish Farm, and adjacent customers.

Furthermore, parts of Mtondia and Tezo in Kilifi County will also experience power interruptions, impacting Mwezang’ombe, Basi, Tezo, Majaani, Chumani, Magarani, Zowerani, Soyo Soyo, Ngerenya, and adjacent customers.

Since January 2023, KPLC has been regularly announcing similar maintenance-related blackouts. While the company states that these outages are part of their routine maintenance efforts, they have had significant implications on local businesses, resulting in financial losses for business owners.
