Bena Wamalines reveals hackers demanded Ksh800K after taking over his accounts

Kenyan comedian Benard Kamulu alias Bena Wa Malines has shed light on the reason behind his short hiatus from content production.

In an interview on the Eve Mungai YouTube channel, the ‘Pulaia Maisa’ crooner unveiled the ordeal he faced when his social media accounts were compromised by hackers, who demanded a staggering sum of Ksh800,000.

“Kuna iyo time wasee walisema nimepotea so nilikua harakati zangu live TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram at the same time. So after nimemaliza live, at around 11.30 pm, kuingia IG, naona user not found, Facebook pia, na TikTok… Pressure!” Bena narrated.

The comedian described the desperate moments that followed, as he scrambled to find a solution after realizing that his social media pages had been hijacked.

“So ndo iyo time nikajaribu kutafuta a solution, nikacall Daddie Marto juu aliwairudishia msee fulani account zake, and after 24 hours, zilikua back but I could not post juu nilikua shadow banned,” he recalled.

Bena acknowledged that the cyberattack severely impacted his income, given his substantial audience on TikTok.

He went further to reveal that the hacker was asking for Ksh800,000.

“YouTube tulikua bado tuko kazi kawaida, lakini TikTok nilikua affected sana coz niko na mafans uko sana, but nilimanage kuhamisha audience for that particular time. Uyo msee alikua anahitasha doo, 800K,” he said.

Bena recovers socials

With support from content creator Daddie Marto, Bena Wa Malines shared how they took the necessary steps to reclaim his compromised accounts without succumbing to the hackers’ demands for the exorbitant ransom.

Despite the setback, Bena Wa Malines expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he received from his fans and colleagues throughout the challenging time.

Bena Wa Malines has become a household name in the entertainment scene since he rose to stardom- taking TikTok by storm.

He is well known for his well-collated comedy skits that have left many in stitches.

On TikTok with 7 million views and a total of 3 million followers, the funny man is definitely a force to be reckoned with.
