Arsenal defeated Manchester City on penalties on Sunday to win this year’s Community Shield.
Cole Palmer, who was introduced as a second-half substitute, opened the scoring in the 70th minute.
Palmer found himself in space on the right and curled home a stunning effort past Aaron Ramsdale.
However, Leandro Trossard equalised in the 101st minute when his shot deflected off Michael Akanji into the back of the net.
That took the game to spot-kicks, where substitute Kevin de Bruyne struck the crossbar before Rodri saw his effort saved, and then Fabio Vieira converted to secure the silverware for Arsenal.
The win gives Arsenal’s hopes of beating City to the Premier League title a psychological boost.
