Harambee Stars fullback Daniel Anyembe featured for full minutes as Viborg registered their first Swedish Superliga victory of the season.
Viborg saw off OB 2-1 on Tuesday to pick up maximum points in a game for the first time since they had lost and drawn in the last two games.
Anosike Ementa scored the opening goal in the 28th minute as Viborg took the lead before the home side fought back and equalised in the 72nd minute when Bashkim Kadrii scored.
Winning goal
However, Nigel Thomas ensured that Viborg regained their lead in the 80th minute, and the home team held onto it to finally take home the three points.
Viborg are yet to keep a clean sheet in each of the three games this season, and Anyembe has featured in all of them.
Last season, Anyembe played in 23 games, and he was named in the starting lineup in 21 games.
Anyembe would hope to continue getting regular minutes as he looks forward to maintaining a position in the Harambee Stars squad.
Although most players have their focus on their club duties now, upcoming Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup fixtures for Kenya will motivate them to try their best in order to be considered.
Anyembe has been part of previous teams, and he will hope to maintain his position when Engin Firat names his next squad.
Firat’s target
In a recent interview, the Turkish coach revealed that he has a clear picture of the players he wants to use in the AFCON and World Cup qualifiers.
Anyembe was part of the new players brought into the fold by Firat alongside Timothy Ouma, Alwyn Tera, Anthony Wambani, Amos Nondi, Wilkings Ochieng, Hassan Beja, Simon Masaka, Byrne Omondi, Benson Omalla, Victor Omune, Joseph Mwangi, Charles Ouma, and Moses Shummah.
