A rare burial ceremony was conducted on Thursday in Kirinyaga County where relatives and villagers took less than 10 minutes to bury a 60-year-old man.

Residents of Mwangathia village in Mukure Ward, Ndia Constituency flocked to the home of Stanley Mugo, 60, to witness a burial that took less than 10 minutes without any ceremony.

According to the family of the deceased led by James Ngaire, the late Stanley Mugo had told them that he wished to be buried without any ceremony.

“We took the body from the mortuary and took it directly to the grave as he wished,” Ngaire said.

Shocked residents watched as men from the village buried him in an unusual send-off.

“Last respect for the departed is expressed in so many ways, mostly the religion or traditional practices but we wonder why Mugo decided to be buried this way,” asked John Mugo Nyamu, Chairman of the burial committee.

At one point, there was confusion after a local clergyman attempted to conduct prayers but was stopped by the relatives of the deceased.
