Jamie Carragher has revealed who he thinks will come out on top when Chelsea lock horns with Liverpool this weekend. The Blues will welcome the Reds to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as either side looks to begin the new Premier League season with three-points on the board.

In each of the two clubs’ previous four meetings, it has ended 0-0 after 90 minutes. However, the former Liverpool defender believes that the deadlock will be finally broken in what is expected to be a fiery affair as the Moises Caicedo transfer saga ensues.

The Blues remain confident they can still sign the 21-year-old midfielder despite the Reds agreeing a £110million deal with Brighton, football.london understands. It’s believed that Caicedo hasn’t agreed personal terms with Liverpool yet despite the Merseyside outfit preparing for his arrival at the AXA Training Centre.

While Chelsea are yet to send the Seagulls an improved offer, they intend to do so, with the Ecuador international’s heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge. Earlier this summer, he voiced his desire to join the west Londoners, describing the club as a ‘very big, historic, beautiful team.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Carragher claimed that the off-field shenanigans could see Chelsea and Liverpool up the intensity. He said: “Last season, Liverpool and Chelsea played two 0-0 draws. The clubs were already in the process of regrouping and looking ahead.

“It is a measure of where they are heading into this season that it will be a surprise if there are less than four goals on Sunday. My prediction is a high-scoring draw with both goalkeepers at their busiest, and the off-field battle for Caicedo will only add to the intensity of the occasion.

“For Jurgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino, Liverpool and Chelsea to get back to being title contenders, they will have to be more active in the transfer market in the upcoming windows,” added Carragher. “But no matter how much rebuilding and investment everyone chasing Manchester City still requires, no-one has more unfinished business in the Premier League than Pochettino as seeks to win the trophies that eluded him the first time around.”
