Kilifi-based preacher Ezekiel Odero will continue preaching the word of God after High Court suspended the decision by the Registrar of Societies to deregister his church.

The court allowed the New Life Prayer Center and Church which has over 5,000 followers to continue to operate.

Justice Jairus Ngash ruled that pending the interrogation by the court of the question of whether the process leading to the deregistration of New Life Prayer Center and church was consistent with the law of the land and in particular whether it was legal, rational and procedural fair to the church.

The Judge further ruled that the gazette notice of August 18, 2023, remains suspended pending further directions from the court.

This is after the church officials Frankline Kilonzo, Alice Wafula Wanyama and preacher Ezekiel Odero on behalf of the Church moved to court seeking to suspend the Registrar of Societies move to deregister his ministry.

He told the court the application is extremely urgent urging the court to suspend the move.

Through lawyers, Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, Odero urged the court to quash the Registrar’s illegal directive to cancel the registration of the church.

The officials and the preacher urged the court to compel the Registrar of Societies to promptly and without delay accept the annual returns that the Church has diligently endeavoured to submit since April 2023.

In the court documents, they urged the court to restrain the first respondent by itself, its agents or anyone else under its instructions from engaging in any manner of disruption or obstruction of the operations of New Life Prayer Centre and Church, under the guise of effecting the enforcement of the deregistration published in the Gazette Notice.
