The first day of the Kenyan Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise in Mandera County saw a turnout of over 400 individuals, hoping to join the armed force.
The candidates seek to fill the Officer Cadets, General Duty Recruits, Specialist Officers, and Defense Forces constabularies positions advertised by KDF.
At the mass recruitment exercise in Mandera, there was a notable gender gap, with only four young women participating compared to a larger number of male candidates.
Addressing the press, Senior Recruitment Officer Lt. Col. Paul Njue expressed satisfaction with the initial turnout, emphasizing that the numbers have been encouraging.
Njue also mentioned that a significant number of youths were disqualified from the exercise, some due to possessing fraudulent documents, while others did not meet the minimum qualifications.
He further highlighted that, there have been no reported incidents of bribery among the recruits, and that thorough checks would be conducted to ensure that suitable candidates are recruited.
The KDF recruitment began on August 28 and is scheduled to run until September 8, 2023.
While officiating the start of the annual exercise, Vice Chief of Defence Jonah Mwangi said the force seeks to deliver a transparent and accountable recruitment exercise.
“Members of the public are advised from fraud since it violates KDF values more so the value of integrity,” Mwangi said.
