Police in Ndhiwa Sub-County in Homabay over the weekend arrested their colleague who allegedly attacked his boss for allegedly assaulting his superior with a machete, leaving him with a deep cut on the palm.

In a police report filed at Ndhiwa Police Station, Mr Augustine Oketch allegedly attacked Mr Koech Kimutai, who is in charge of Pala Police Post, after they differed over a person who had been placed in custody but released in unclear circumstances.

“It was reported by Mr Koech Kimutai who is in charge of Pala Police Station that he had been assaulted by Mr Augustine Oketch who cut him using a sharp panga. The OCS led a group of officers who visted the scene and established that the two had differed over a prisoner,” the report seen by Nairobi News read in part.

The incident, chronicled in the police report and reviewed by Nairobi News, narrates that Mr Koech Kimutai visited Mr Oketch’s residence in search of answers regarding a prisoner who had been apprehended on Saturday, August 26, 2023, but had mysteriously vanished from the holding cells.

Rather than engaging in a conversation, Mr Oketch allegedly seized a machete, intending to strike his superior on the head. A swift defensive maneuver by Mr Koech Kimutai shielded his head from the blow, resulting in a deep cut to his palm.

The report indicated that an investigative team led by the Officer in Charge of the Station (OCS), swiftly responded to the scene of the altercation, corroborating the accounts of the clash between the two officers. Their rift was traced back to differing opinions about handling the detained individual.

Following the attack, Mr Koech was promptly rushed to Pala Health Centre, received medical attention and was subsequently discharged in stable condition.

This incident surfaces amidst a wave of unsettling occurrences involving law enforcement officers. In a parallel incident, a police constable is facing serious allegations of raping a female detainee within a police station in Kitui County.

In this case, the constable purportedly removed the suspect from the holding cells and sexually assaulted her in one of the office rooms.

The shocking act transpired while the officer on duty went to use the restroom, and the incident took an even more bizarre turn when the officer’s wife unexpectedly walked in on the scene.

Having ventured to the police station to locate her delayed husband, the officer’s wife heard voices from one room.

Upon entering the room, she recognized her husband’s voice and discovered him and the female suspect in a compromising state.

Infuriated by the revelation, the officer’s wife wielded a heavy stick against the female suspect, inflicting significant injuries.

The victim was swiftly transported to Mutitu Sub-County Hospital for medical treatment and examination, while the accused officer was apprehended on charges of rape.

The officer and his wife are expected to face legal consequences as the legal proceedings unfold. The couple is slated to appear in court on Monday, August 28, 2023, to answer the charges leveled against them.
