A family from Thiba in Mwea Constituency, Kirinyaga County, was on Wednesday night shocked to find the body of a 45-year-old man who went missing last week in Kerugoya Mortuary.

Patrick Macamba’s family led by his brother Michael Machamba had been looking for him from last week on Friday when he went missing, seeking help from well-wishers in finding him.

They were shocked to identify his body at Kerugoya Mortuary.

“We were told by the mortuary attendant he had an injury on his neck when his body was brought here by police officers. We suspect he was killed by unknown people,” Simon Kathuri said.

According to Macamba’s cousin Pius Kathuri, his body was found in Togonye in Murinduko ward, over 30 kilometres away from Thiba ward.

“Gicobi was a mason in local villages and it seems the killers wanted to eliminate him because they even left his motorcycle where his body was,” Kathuri said.

The deceased’s brother Bundi said prior to the discovery of Mcamba’s body, the deceased had been living in a rented house at Red Soil in the Mathangauta sub-location.

According to the family members, his phone was discovered by a woman along the road at Red Soil village, ringing, where the lady took the phone to a person who knew him before it was taken to Wanguru police station.

Mwea East sub-county police commander James Mutua said police have launched investigations to establish what happened to Gicobi.

“We have reported the body as unknown after it was taken to Kerugoya County referral mortuary by Itangi police officers and his motorcycle is still at Tangi police station,” Mutua said.
