A Somali National named Abdi Yusuf has been charged with obtaining a national identification card in the name of Abdi Yusuf Ali by pretending that he was the son of Ralia Mohammed Wardere alias Iron Lady, a fact known to be false.
It alleged that he committed the offence between July 14, 1987 and February 19, 2008 in Nanighi sub location with Garissa County.
He is facing another count of forging the said ID bearing the name of Abdi Yusuf Ali purporting to be genuine national identity card issued by National Registration Bureau.
The prosecution claims that in November 2022, at Eastleigh, the accused uttered the said ID as genuine.
He also pleaded not guilty to another count of making a the national identification card unlawfully and being in the country unlawfully.
It is alleged that on March 29, 2023 at Pangani area, being Somalia citizen, he was found in the country without a valid passport or visa in contravention with the laws of Kenya.
In April this year the accused was arraigned before the Makadara Law Court and the officer investigating the matter, Corporal Hussein Hassan, told the court that the accused’s citizenship is questionable as he had acquired his Kenyan national identity card at the age of 30.
Hassan told the court that the circumstances under which Yusuf acquired the Kenyan national identity card is questionable since he was born in Somali.
He was also charged that on diverse dates between September 8, 2022 and September 24 at Eastleigh area, with intent to defraud, he obtained Ksh.5.6 million from Hassan Ali Hassan by falsely pretending that he was in a position to import assorted cosmetics, Nutella Chocolates and aptamil milk from Europe, a fact he knew to be false.
The court will make a decision on Thursday on whether he will be released on bail or not.
