Residents in eight counties across Kenya, including the capital city, Nairobi, woke up to a grim Tuesday as they braced themselves for planned power blackouts announced by the Kenya Power Company.
The widespread interruptions are set to impact a range of areas in Nairobi, Nakuru, Sobea, Trans Zoia, Migori, Meru, Embu, and Kiambu Counties.
In Nairobi County, the affected areas include Metameta, German Hospital, Mathare 4A, and adjacent customers.
Other areas within the capital city affected by the power disruptions encompass Kangemi, parts of Waiyaki Way, Sodom area, Kinda School, Nairobi Water, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kabaserian Avenue, Musa Gitau, Quickmart Supermarket, Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK), and adjacent customers.
Njiru area residents will also experience power outages, affecting places such as Makama Hardware, Njiru Catholic, Njiru Sub-County Hospital, Ola Petrol Station, Bee Energy, Rama Hotels, Lexo Njiru, parts of Mwiki Road, parts of Kangundo Road, and adjacent customers.
The interruptions will also impact Mwangaza School, Busara School, Peter Kipkosia School, Umoja two markets, and Twin Kid School.
Nakuru County will not be spared, with the entire Blakets area, Kiratina, White-House, Mailisita, Kunste, Teachers, Valley Convection, Tosti, Watu wa Hema, Kajipara, Mediheal, Hill Court, Nairobi Women’s Hospital, Nawasco Nairobi Road, and adjacent customers facing power disruptions.
Sobea residents will experience a complete blackout, including parts of Ngata, C14 Nakuru Teachers, Carzan Shantara, Africa Blooms, Shalom, Gicheha Farm, Shayonam Polythene, Regogo, parts of Salgaa, and adjacent customers.
In parts of Trans Zoia County, residents in areas like Makunga, Bhakita, Goseta, Emoru, Taito, Maili Saba, Milima, Aruba, Kesogon, Kimeloi, Kaisagat, Kapsara, Sirwo Resort, Namba Nne, Kirita, Marura, Makuyu, Mutua, Maili 7, Kipsaina, and adjacent customers will also be affected by the planned power interruptions.
Migori County residents in Nyamarambe, Riosiri, Kondero Bara, Riosiri Center, Nyabigena Secondary School, parts of Rongo Market, Nduru High School and Center, Emesa Village, and adjacent customers will experience power outages.
Meru County is not exempt from the blackouts, affecting areas such as Maua Town, Athi, Kimongoro, Igembe Tea Factory, Kiegoi Tea Factory, Athiru Gaiti, Luluma, Nyambene Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and adjacent customers.
Embu County will also face power interruptions, impacting Masinga KenGen Camp and Water Treatment, Sogea, Kamukunzi, Kaewa, Kisekuni, Masinga Town, Msingini Resort, Masinga Boys and Girls Secondary School, and adjacent customers.
Lastly, Kiambu County residents in Witeithe, Metro, parts of Ngoingwa, Ndarugo Motel, Compuera Mpesa Academy, and adjacent customers will also experience power blackouts.
The Kenya Power Company has not provided specific reasons for these planned power interruptions, but residents have been advised to take necessary precautions and make arrangements for backup power sources during the outage period.
The company has assured that power will be restored as soon as possible once the necessary maintenance work is completed.
