Suspected Al Shabaab militants on September 26, 2023, killed one person in Garissa.

The militants raided the home of Mr Yakub Kussow the Chief Yumbis in Fafi sub-County and abducted his brother Mr Abdirashid Hassan Hanshi alias Juma.

According to a police report seen by Nairobi News, the militants were after the chief but he was not at home during the raid.

“They were targeting the administrator but failed to get him, and instead abducted his brother whom they later killed at the outskirts of the Trading Centre,” the report read in part.

Interestingly, this incident happened just five days after an intelligence report which is in our possession warned that Al Shabaab was planning an attack in the area.

Intelligence reports reveal the militants have been threatening locals including National Police Reservists and local administrators against working closely with security agencies.

Equally, locals have made reports that they recently sighted five Al Shabaab militants who were armed with AK47 rifles within Sabuli Trading Center.

This comes at a time when a memo was sent to all senior officers within Wajir County to be vigilant as Al Shabaab might attack an area known as Habaswein.

Nairobi News cannot share the specific targets the militias are planning to hit due to the sensitivity of the matter.

The memo asked the officers to ensure that they conduct patrols within the area where the militants are believed to be planning to make attacks.

Officers were also asked to always escort Public Service Vehicles and activate the Nyumba Kumi initiative.

In the past, intelligence reports have warned that Al Shabaab militia were planning attacks in the vast North Eastern region and within Lamu.

The intelligence reports also warn that there is a huge presence of the attackers in those regions.
