Manchester United legend, Paul Scholes believes Raphael Varane’s legs are ‘looking sluggish’ and fears the defender cannot keep fit.
Varane’s form has been questionable this season, while he has already missed a month of the campaign due to injury.
The Frenchman was at fault for Kerem Akturkoglu’s equalizer, when he drifted out wide and allowed a pass through his legs during Man United’s recent Champions League 3-2 defeat to Galatasaray.
The former Real Madrid star was then slow to close down Mauro Icardi before he chipped goalkeeper Andre Onana to score the winner.
Varane, who joined Man United from Real Madrid in 2021, arrived at Old Trafford as one of the most decorated players in world football.
“I worry about Varane a bit, he has been one of the very best defenders around, in that same ilk at Real Madrid,” Scholes said to TNT Sports.
“I just think his legs are looking sluggish, he can’t keep fit and I worry about him
“Really disappointed. I actually don’t think they played that badly. All the talk before the game was that they couldn’t really score goals and there was a lack of goals in the team.
“We were successful a couple of times which led to big goals for us, so I am delighted with the players’ commitment.”
Varane will hope to lead Man United to victory when they face Brentford in a Premier League tie this weekend.
