Luwero Police are investigating the theft of eight buckets of gold worth 2.5 billion Ugandan shillings (Approximately Ksh.99M)

The victims, Bullion Refinery employees, were on their way to Kampala when they were ambushed by a gang of five armed thugs on Sunday night.

The robbers intercepted their victims in a Toyota Hiace, bound them, and robbed them of their belongings, including 90,000 shillings in cash and mobile phones, according to Police spokesperson Mr Fred Enanga.

“After intercepting them, the thugs tied the suspects and took all their belongings, including cash of 90,000 Ugandan shillings and mobile phones,” Mr Enanga revealed.

The victims’ Toyota Wish was abandoned at Nseke Trading Centre in Butuntumula, Luwero District, as the thieves fled in their Toyota Hiace towards Kampala.

“The victims were transported in a Toyota Wish, which they were moving in from Arua to Kampala and abandoned at Nseke trading center in Butuntumula, Luweero District, and the suspects took away in their Toyota hiace towards Kampala, “Enga continued.

The suspects are still at large, despite joint security efforts involving the Flying Squad, CMI, Crime Intelligence, and ISO.
