Five suspects involved in the theft of Ksh.94.9 million from Quickmart supermarket will remain in custody for a period of 10 days to allow for further investigations.

The suspects were arrested on Sunday for allegedly stealing the money while it was being transported by Wells Fargo, before abandoning the company’s vehicle in South C area of Nairobi.

Ismael Patrick Gitonga was nabbed within Rongai; he is the owner and driver of the vehicle suspected to have been used to ferry the stolen cash from the escort van.

The vehicle was traced to Njiru within Kayole area where two more suspects – Michael Matolo Njeru and Samwel Onyango – who were in the process of modifying it to possibly conceal its identity were arrested.

Detectives then pounced on Martin Nderi Nganga in Kasarani, who was found with Ksh.9.1 million at his rented house

The money was stashed in a suitcase and another in a plastic jerrycan, according to images shared by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The DCI sleuths further recovered a cash box in a forest next to Gataka market in Karen Estate.
