One person has died and 16 others seriously injured in a road accident at Migaa area on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening when a lorry transporting maize from Eldoret to Nakuru lost control and collided with a 14-seater matatu on its way from a traditional wedding (Ruracio) in Eldoret to Nyahururu.

The 16 injured persons were transported to the Nakuru Level V Hospital for treatment, where five currently remain under medical care, one having sustained severe head injuries.

Meanwhile, in a separate accident, five people are recovering from serious injuries at Nakuru Level V Hospital, among them a 14-year-old admitted to the facility’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in critical condition.

The accident occurred when the vehicle they were traveling in got into an accident at Sobea area on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway.

According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 1,679 people have died in road accidents since the beginning of this year, with the number expected to spike during the festive season.
