Police in Ruaka, on Sunday, December 10, 2023, arrested a cab driver who allegedly sexually assaulted a female passenger.

The incident occurred a week ago and happened inside the car in a thicket located along the Ruaka Bypass.

In a statement, police said the suspect was nabbed and taken to Njathaiini Police Station in Kiambu County.

“The suspect was nabbed from his home and positively identified by the suspect, he is currently held in the station awaiting further directives,” the statement read in part.

Acting to conceal his identity, the suspect, who was driving a Mitsubishi car, had shaved off his dreadlock hairstyle.

Another passer-by who witnessed what transpired also recorded a statement and told police that the driver sped away after the act.

It is the passer-by who managed to capture the registration number of the motor vehicle, which made it easier for the police to nab the suspect.

Police said plans were underway to arraign him in court on Monday, December 11, 2023, and seek more time as they go on with the investigations.

Over 3,762 cases of Gender Based Violence were reported in 2022, this is according to the Center for Rights Education and Awareness (CREAW-Kenya).

Meanwhile, in Isiolo, at least three suspected cattle rustlers were killed in a botched robbery when they went to steal pigs in Isiolo County.

According to the police, locals heard the owner of the pigs calling for help and they apprehended the thieves leading to the death of three of them.
