National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi says the Azimio la Umoja coalition party shall remain tight-lipped on who will represent them in the presidential race until when they deem it fit.
According to the legislator, the coalition is privy to the fact that the political scene is very likely to metamorphose before the next election cycle, and announcing their frontman right now will be premature.
Wandayi however asserted that whoever will be fronted will receive unequivocal support from the coalition’s members.
“As a political coalition it is our view that once the opposition makes a decision at an opportune time as to who shall fly the flag, we shall support that person wholeheartedly,” Wandayi said in an interview with Daily Nation.
“It could be Azimio, it could be something else but again you know that 2027 is still very far. The political landscape is going to change there will be alignments and realignments between now and the next election.”
This comes amid political jitters around who between the Azimio principles, Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka, will be endorsed to vie for the presidential seat.
Wandayi said that the floor will be open to anyone seeking candidacy and focus should not be centered around the two political firebrands.
“Raila Odinga has more than the capacity to be president of the county, Kalonzo also has the credentials and so are many others within the Azimio coalition,” added Wandayi.
Kalonzo has vowed to stage the stiffest competition against President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Mr. Odinga has remained tight-lipped on whether he will be in the presidential race, however expressing confidence that Kalonzo can easily beat Ruto if they meet at the ballot.
