Lionel Messi has become the first footballer to win The Best FIFA Men’s Player award three times.

The Argentine superstar, 36, was confirmed as the 2023 winner at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in London on Monday, January 15.

Messi was recognised for his achievements, having come out on top in the voting ahead of finalists Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

However, Messi was not present at the party as he was with his Inter Miami teammates preparing for a pre-season friendly against El Salvador on Friday.

The Argentina captain had previously won the award in 2019 and 2022.

The Best FIFA Award recognizes the most exceptional performer in the men’s game every year.
