An Instagram turned tragic as a 20-year-old woman met a gruesome death at a short-term rental along TRM Drive.

Before the yet-to-be-identified woman met with her assailant, she questioned his motives and even asked if he planned to kill her.

Nairobi News has learned that the victim and the prime suspect connected through Instagram, engaging in days of conversation before agreeing to meet.

A detective familiar with the ongoing investigation revealed that the suspect consistently used Instagram for communication, avoiding direct phone calls.

The victim had reportedly declined previous meeting requests, but the suspect managed to convince her of his plans to leave the country temporarily, proposing a meeting upon his return.

“As per the messages, it is evident that the woman turned down meeting the suspect on several occasions until she agreed to do so last week,” the officer who spoke in confidence to Nairobi News as he is not authorised to address the media said.

With the date secured, the suspect arrived early, clad in white shoes, and communicated his location to the victim, who was en route from Syokimau Area. They met and proceeded to an Airbnb, where police believe the horrifying crime took place.

On January 16, 2024, the main suspect, a foreigner, was apprehended at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The victim’s family, tight-lipped about the incident, positively identified the deceased’s clothing at the police station. The identification process, however, is prolonged as the head of the victim remains undiscovered.

Neighbors of the short-term rental house were questioned by law enforcement, investigating whether any unusual noises were heard.

Initial suspicions indicate that the suspect may have drugged the victim before dismembering her body inside the booked residence’s bathroom.

“We highly suspect that the murderer drugged the lady before he ended her life. This happened inside the bathroom of that house which he had booked,” said the source.

Using fake documents and a phone number registered under a woman’s name, the suspect booked the room, managing to evade scrutiny.

In the days leading up to the incident, he was traced to Ruaka Sub-County until he relocated to Roysambu Area on Sunday, just hours before the tragic event.

As investigations intensify, the family has urged the public to be patient.
